I started this week by researching how to create textures in Photoshop using various filters; this has helped me gain a better understanding of the filters and create wood textures for the second page of the novel. After importing and applying all the textures, I finished the silhouettes and increased the poker table's height. Warping the textures using the perspective tool has helped me in understanding how textures should look as well as learning a new easy way to fill empty shapes. With page two complete I began to work on the third page during the Celebration Of Learning early this week, it was a productive event and an awesome way to showcase what I had made so far. The shading is nearly done now, once it is I will be fixing the shoes as they are out of place then move onto the background. As I am now on winter break I should be able to dedicate more time towards this project and hopefully it shall be complete soon.

Despite all the great progress this week, there is still much left to be done before the celebration of learning next week. Last weekend I started to work on the finer details of the second page; however, I've been more focused on the third page as I'm looking into how to make a proper texture for the wood. I've primarily been finishing the line art, shading, and lighting of the third page, I haven't run into any roadblocks or issues yet because since the first page I've learned new techniques. I've added and details the ears, shoulder pads, trench coat, hair, and most noticeably also basic shading. Over the weekend and next week, I plan to finish the second page. If I can finish the character illustration of the third page I'll start on the background. If all goes well, hopefully, I can have three pages printed for the celebration of learning. This week for my VAM 30 special project, I finished the line art on my third illustrated page and have nearly completed filling in the base colours. I've been quite productive as I've taken advantage of some new Photoshop tricks and techniques. Over the weekend I did some research on how to improve my clothing wrinkles and fixed the disproportional arms. The most noticeable changes this week are probably the addition of a face, hair, hands, and shoes. There is still some line art to be finished or adjusted, such as the ears, mouth, and belt, but I've put my focus into colouring for the past two days. Starting next week, I hope to finish this character illustration and move on to creating a simple background for it.
This week for my VAM 30 special project I worked on a multitude of pages. Firstly, I did some major detailing on the second page, I've improved the flooring, almost finished the details on the stairs, and added a sign for the bar on the wall. For this page I believe there is not all that much left to do, I don't plan to add much more details to anything but the stairs which will be finished on my own time. After this I made a beta version of the cover for the book, I haven't drawn anything out yet but I've played around with a reptile scale background and Ouroboros clip art. This will be the inspiration for what I actually plan to draw, which should also keep a similar colour pallet. Lastly as of Wednesday this week I restarted the third page of the novel, this is because the previous version of this page was too complicated, the proportion was off, and it would've been too much work to fix. Currently, I'm working on finishing the line art for this page and if I'm able to work on it this weekend I hopefully should have it done. By the end of next week, I'm hoping to have the base colours done on the third page and move onto shading. Starting off this week, or rather last weekend, I decided to work on some finer detailing on the first page as it was still looking a little bit bland to me. I'm quite happy with how it has turned out, I may go back for some more minor detailing once again this weekend however my priorities will most likely be in the second page as I'd like it finished no later then next Wednesday . I have gotten a splendid amount of progress done on the second page this week, I've fixed my terrible colour pallet I had before, the pool table, added some stools, some detailing to the stairs, and some beers to the wine rack. I plan to finish the stair detailing next and after that add some detailing to the wall, flooring, and add a person or two into the scene. Some of the lighting and shading may need to be adjusted but overall this page has the look I was initially going for, all that's left now is to add the details and objects that will further set the mood. This week of my VAM 30 special project has been one of my most productive weeks. I've learned how to use my drawing tablet more efficiently thanks to daily sketches I've been working on; in turn, this page's work has gone by much faster. I've fixed the creases of Ryan's trench coat and completed his shoulder pad details. Shading and highlighting have been improved and the sky aspect of the image almost complete. All that is left to do is minor detailing on the background buildings. Regarding this week I've learned a great deal on gradients, brush pressure, and Photoshop shortcuts. Next week I will be moving onto finishing the second page of mine.
This week for VAM I've been hard at work on the first page of my novel, I have imported the background from Adobe Illustrator into Photoshop and I've touched up several details on Ryan. Details such as his shirt, abs, hair, shoulder pads, mouth, nose, ears, and trench coat have all been worked on, his face at this point is also basically complete, all I have to do is remove the pink lining. Aside from this, I've added in a gloomy sky using the gradient tool which may be changed later on to show more contrast between the two rows of buildings. I need to add more details to the buildings, the sky, as well as Ryan's trench coat before this page is complete. I don't plan to go too much further in depth with this page however unless I find time outside of class as I still need to finish the other two pages I've started. This week has been pretty productive and I'm hoping with the pace I'm going at that I should be able to complete this page soon.
This week for my VAM 30 special project I find has been a great learning experience as I got a new drawing tablet earlier this week, the amount of practice I've gotten to do with it while working on finishing my first page of my visual novel has been great! The most notable progress this week has been the eyes, I've almost fully illustrated them with my new tablet alone and I'm quite proud with how they've come out. While working on the hair I've learned a bit more on things regarding light and shading which should help me in the future work of this visual novel. Besides that, I've done some touch ups on the hair, made some eyebrows, and am currently working on the nose and mouth. Next week I plan to continue working on this page whether it be Ryan (the dude I'm drawing in the picture below) or the background which should be imported to Photoshop shortly.
For this week of my VAM 30 special project I decided to start finishing the older pages, starting another new page when none of the previous ones aren't complete wouldn't make any sense. For the first page I've made much more progress on the background, most of the buildings are complete at this point so soon it will be exported into Photoshop for more precise detailing, along with that, I've finished the hair for Ryan (the protagonist/dude on the first page.) I'll be moving onto fixing his clothes this upcoming week as well as exporting the background into Photoshop. On the second page, I've finished more work on the staircase railings and wine wall. This page is also almost ready to be exported into photoshop for finer details, I just need to fix the poker table and stairs. Overall, this week has been quite productive and I'm looking forward to what I can accomplish next! Despite this week's shorter time frame, I've managed to get a decent amount of work done on this page. My main priority for the first page on Tuesday was to fix the hair of the main protagonist, the guy with white hair; however I had never attempted to draw the back of someone's head in such detail before so it took more time than I would've liked. The next day I added shading to the protagonist's hair and some wrinkles to the other person's clothing. Shoes were also added as placeholders to see what their actual shoes may look like once drawn and help with pant length. On Thursday I added more wrinkles to the other person's coat and shoulder pads to the main protagonist's trench coat; the outcome isn't what I want for the final product so I'll be fixing them next week. Afterward, I decided to start sketching out a gas mask for the other person, drawing faces in Illustrator isn't my strong suit and a gas mask makes sense given the setting of the novel. With everything considered, even with all the roadblocks I've run into I still think I've made alright progress this week. |
