On Wednesday, Sep 17 2017, I was introduced to the idea of smart goals. They're basically the stepping stones towards creating a reasonable and achievable goal. The "S" in the smart acronym means specific, this describes how and why goals need to be specified because you can't just say "get in better shape." Like in what way would you get in shape? Something that says like "Get my biceps and triceps in good condition" would be a good example of the first step to creating your goal; just make sure you define the goal as best as possible. The next step would is "M" which stands measurable, just make sure you can track your goal, can you measure the outcome or improvement? Can you track the progress throughout the goal? Make sure you've taken all of these questions into account when creating your smart goal. The next step to this process is "A" for attainable, meaning is or will this goal reasonable enough to be accomplished? When writing out your smart goal be sure to know if it's reasonable or you may never accomplish it. I mean, if you can't complete it, what's the point in the first place? Step four of smart goals is "R" which identifies as relevant, is it a goal worth your time? Will it match your current needs? Be sure to think about what is most important at that moment in time. The last and final step of this process is "T" which is timely, which just means would time will you complete this task by? What days of the week will you work on this goal? How many hours? This is extremely important because if you don't have a time limit the goal is not going to be top of your priorities because you can complete it at any time.
My personal smart goal is to "Achieve superior overall fitness and mass in my abs and biceps by April 1st." This is specific because I'm stating I want to increase abs and biceps strength, not just get in shape. This is measurable because I can take before and after photos, I can also make time limits and a schedule. It is attainable if I learn to use the machines and weights right (and if I actually start going to the gym). It is relevant since I've wanted to get in better shape for the past year now, and this is exactly how I can do so. And it's timely because I've stated what time this will be completed by and I can plan a work out schedule. My academy smart goal is to "Learn how to draw somewhat realistic/anime human figures and shapes by the end of the first semester." This is specific because I've stated what kind of drawings I'd like to do, and what time. It happens to be measurable since I can compare each one of my art works and look at where I can improve. It's attainable since I'm able to research the art and examples of it on Google and learn everything I need to know. Afterwards I can practice during my free time and get help from my art teacher or other students. This is relevant because I've been trying to learn to do this for the past few months by now, so completing this goal would definitely be at the top of my priorities. I've stated what time this will be completed by, which is at the end of the first semester, so that makes it timely.
