It's been a long year but it's sadly come to an end, school is finally over and I have the summer to do whatever I please. It's been a very rewarding year compared to others, VAM (Visual Arts and Media Academy) has affected my life dramatically. I've gotten much higher grade then I'm used to because of how relaxed it is in the morning I'm able to have a consistent level of focus and determination throughout the day. What I really loved about VAM is how you're in charge of the way you want to do your project and the teacher support 100% of the way. I've grown exponentially as an artist, because of VAM I'm now much more advanced in digital art, photography, laws of design principles, etc.
Throughout the year I grew to be a more and more open person and learned to ask for help when I needed it instead of shutting down like I used to. Although I wish I we would've had another person project, I'm also glad we got to learn new things that helped us out of our comfort zone using art styles we've never done or done very little of before. It's fantastic that the whole class is filled with artists so if you ever need feedback or constructive criticism you can ask anyone; VAM was definitely the highlight of my year.

I found the Romeo & Juliet project our class did recently to be quite fun and entertaining, we were all about to put our own short twist on the original story. I love that we were able to choose our own music & sound effects (to an extent,) do a script or narration, and choose how we wanted to play out the scenes. I’ve learned some very valuable lessons in this assignment like the need for music and sound effect balancing; how to produce a pre-production, and how to put the whole thing together when editing. Me and my group did act 3 of Romeo & Juliet, which is when a lot of fighting happens resulting in Mercutio’s & Tybalt’s deaths and Juliet’s mental breakdown.
When we were filming, we really wanted to capture the emotions of the characters we casted so we made sure we trapped all that in the pre production so it was clear for our actors. We made the fight scenes short and sweet because we don’t want to drag out such a blatantly clear point in the film. We more so were focusing towards the fight between Juliet and her parents. As we receive the rest of the clips from other groups, we edited as we original planned and added in a voice over to make it perfectly clear for the audience to understand us. The music we choose in the film we felt better expressed the drama, love, and stress of the story. For the fight scenes, we choose a public park and an alleyway to emphasise the fact they were in the open for all citizens to see. When the bodies were laid down by the prince, we decided it would be a good idea for a black and white background to farther show the depth of the deaths of Mercutio and Tybalt. We made sure the Juliet scene in act 3 was fairly long so we can capture the full importance of Juliet’s breakdown. We also did our best to translate the emotions from text and important into the film using the actor’s skills. I found that our best friend in this project was iMovie as we had a lot of errors and mistakes that we were able to fix using iMovie and overall put the whole film together. I believe the biggest controlling factor in our part’s scenes is how the characters react to the conflicts they face. |
